Abstract:
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) was proposed to create harmonic systems of computer, communication, and control. In this talk, I will introduce the brighter vision of CPS and the harsher reality. Under this context, I will then present several practical CPS projects in my group, including applications in precision agriculture (PAGrid), fire fighters (SmartGuard), and healthcare (VitalNet). Cloud computing has emerged as the new wave o IT services. I will further present our new cloud paradigm: cloud of CPS, called GemsCloud. I will also share some of my views on the future CPS systems, particularly mobile social networks.
Bio:
Xiaolin Li is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. His research interests include Parallel and Distributed Systems and Cyber-Physical Systems. He is directing the Scalable Software Systems Laboratory (S3Lab). He is in the executive committee of IEEE Technical Committee of Scalable Computing (TCSC). He has been a TPC chair for over 10 international conferences and workshops and an associate editor for several journals. He received a PhD in Computer Engineering from Rutgers University. Before that, he received a PhD from National University of Singapore, a MS from Zhejiang University, and a BS from Qingdao University. He is a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2010.
